KIDRC was the only local organization of Congo Kinshasa, which represented
DRC youth activities to the recently held Gaborone 9th International Adolescent conference on HIV and SRHR. Dr Patrick Makelele, the senior community program manager and adolescent focal person, presented the KIDRC innovative AYP peer education model, the ‘ANAVA /CCS‘ approach, which was appreciated during poster exhibition at the conference. One young girl from the University of Botswana who visited the KIDR poster said,’ Finaly adolescent are given an opportunity of ANAVA code as a way of self-evaluation themselves and define their own problem before seeking solution. Young people were at the center stage.
It was a good international exposure for KI-DRC with an exchange of experience. A forum where we learned from each other what worked and did not work in peer lead activities. Especially considering this period of funding scarcity. The resilience of young people was demonstrated as they are committed to free HIV adolescent generation through a comprehensive effective and sustainable approaches. KI-DRC calls for other Congo DRC Adolescent and Young people organizations to come many and show case their work at the next Adolescent conference next year in Thailand Bangkok in 2026.
