Bunia & Goma, 23 May 2026 — Kheth’Impilo-DRC has launched a six-month rapid response to the Bundibugyo Ebola outbreak recently declared as Public Health Emergency of International Concern. With suspected cases rising, community tensions reported and
widespread misconceptions, the initiative focuses on urgent, community-centred action to reduce transmission and build trust while carrying EBOLA activity locally among community members.
The program will directly reach 150,000 people and 1.5 million indirectly through door-to-door education, radio messaging, and outreach in congregated settings such as markets, schools, churches, and transport hubs. Community health workers, women leaders, youth, and faith leaders will be trained to deliver accurate information, dispel myths, and support safe care-seeking.
Key priorities include respectful sensitization on risk communication and community engagement, safe and dignified burial, rumor management, psychosocial support for families, and strengthening infection prevention and control in 70 health facilities and public points.
Kheth’Impilo-DRC is committed to working with trusted local partners, including women’s organizations, so that communities understand the risks and protect themselves while demonstrating resilience, care and support to the affected families.
